We just kicked off a major global innovation training program with a Fortune 100 client in Guadalajara Mexico. The level of engagement and interest in improving innovation skills was fantastic to see, but even more exciting was the focus on "applying innovation" to make a real business impact.
It's always interesting to see the cultural differences between company sites that a geographically remote from the corporate headquarters' home country. When there is a sufficient critical mass of both employees and represented corporate functions, the site becomes capable of a certain level of innovation with autonomy. Employees within the site can interact and collaborate across functional and organizational silos that can frustrate innovation efforts with the larger corporate whole. These remote sites offer a great environment within which to experiment with innovation opportunities. The challenge is translating that back into the core business operations and larger, longer-term scaling of the resulting successful innovations.
We are looking forward to the next few training workshops in Europe and the U.S. over the next few months as well as following up to check on the progress of the Guadalajara Mexico teams in several weeks to see their progress.
